National Nutrition Survey, 2017, Pakistan
Undernutrition is a serious public health problem in Pakistan and contributes toward high morbidity and mortality among children The last National Nutrition Survey (NNS) was conducted in 2011 and results showed very high prevalence of acute and chronic malnutrition (Wasting : >15 percent, Stunting: 43.7 percent and Underweight: 31.5 percent) among children under five years of age The survey also shows that almost 50 percent of women are suffering from anemia and 15 percent of women are suffering from energy /caloric deficiency
With the support of DFID, UNICEF and Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination seek Expression of Interest (EOI) from firms/organizations with relevant background, experience and capacity to conduct a large scale National Nutrition Survey The survey will be completed by July 2018, while the data collection process will be started and completed in 2017
The proposed NNS will be conducted throughout Pakistan, district level representative sample will be collected on following variables;
1) Demographic of sampled population
2) Anthropometric measurement including height, weight and age of children and women
3) Collection and analysis of blood samples for zinc, vitamin A & D, iron, calcium, serum folate, vitamin B12, and urine sample for iodine
4) Knowledge attitude and practices in reference to optimal infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices and on micronutrients intake
5) Food intake
6) Tests for water quality (E coli) at point of use and household Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) practices
7) Status of Food security
8) Gender empowerment socio-economic aspects including education, income and other poverty markers in relation to nutrition
9) Other qualitative data collection
The applicant should share following information and submit supporting documents as hard copy;
- A letter of Expression of Interest
- Valid registration or NOC to operate in Pakistan
- Copy of No Objection Certificate from relevant ministry (applicable to government department only)
- Organization profile
- Copy of affidavit to certify that firm/organization is not blacklisted by government of Pakistan or UN agencies / and or any international body
- Experience of conducting national level/large scale surveys in the field of Health and Nutrition (web links, reports, references details)
- Laboratory profile, accreditation certificate and letter of understanding
- Bank account detail /Bank letter
- Audit reports & Annual financial statements (last three years)
- Organization policies manual and procedure (Human resources and finance
