Consultant Contract 25%FTE Co-Editor-in-Chief of Global Health Journal WHO HQ/HIS Health Systems and Innovation (HQ/HIS)/HIA
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:
The objectives of this project are to provide global health information freely to the global health community without financial, legal, language or technical barriers, and in a timely manner; to enhance the dialogues on health issues among researchers, health workers, policy-makers and non-state actors, and to strengthen the process of evidence-based research and policymaking.
The purpose of the position is to act as the Co-Editor in chief of an open access multilingual peer-reviewed journal on Global Health to be co-published by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Information and Publishing (WHO CC-HIP) based at the People’s Medical Publishing House (PMPH), Beijing, China.
Under the direction of Director/ADGO, the Co-Editor in chief together with the other Co-Editor in chief appointed by PMPH will be responsible for the content and the quality of the journal, including giving final approval for each issue.
Description of duties:
The duties involve:
1) Ensure that the content of the Journal is diverse with regard to topics authorship and language and that the Journal meets international journal quality standards in keeping with goals and reputation of WHO and the contents do not put WHO’s reputation at risk.
2) Establish and define policies on conflicts of interest for all involved in the publication process, including editors, staff (e.g., editorial and sales), authors, and reviewers and regularly review policies for handling ethical issues and allegations or findings of misconduct by authors and anyone involved in the peer review process.
3) Establish a system for effective and rapid peer review and oversee its operations as well as journal policies on submission of manuscripts and authorship.
4) Establish an appeal process for authors.
5) Develop mechanisms, in cooperation with PMPH and WHO focal point in HIS, to ensure timely publication of accepted manuscripts.
6) Oversee the technical editing of the English content.
7) Liaise with WHO focal point in HIS and the Editorial Board in establishing and implementing above policies and provide regular reports on implementation and progress of journal.
8) Collaborate with any evaluation of the journal by WHO and provide advice on all aspects of Journal policies and operations as requested.
