Development of Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Guide for Schools
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is the development of a Mental Health And Psychosocial Support Guide that will inform evidence-based, relevant and applicable interventions on promotive and preventive psychosocial interventions for adolescents aged 10 to 19 years, which should be implemented in schools, health care settings (through referral), communities (through advocacy) or through digital platforms.
Objectives
(a) To develop a Mental Health And Psychosocial Support Guide that will enhance the basic sector’s understanding of the importance of mental health in a school setting.
(b) To ensure that the Mental Health And Psychosocial Support Guide that would enable Provincial Education Departments (PEDs), districts, circuits, schools, partners, and other government departments to design comprehensive plans for mental health and psychosocial support services in schools covering mental health promotion, prevention, early identification, management, referral and support.
(c) To enable schools and the sector across all levels to easily monitor mental health and psychosocial support interventions implemented through schools based on the Mental Health And Psychosocial Support Guide.
(d) To provide some easy and simple resources as part of the Mental Health And Psychosocial Support Guide that teachers, learners, parents and officials can use to care for their mental health and psychosocial wellbeing.
(e) To ensure that the content of the Mental Health And Psychosocial Support Guide fits the South African context and with a particular focus on teachers and learners through Department of Basic Education’s systems
