Introduction 

UNICEF Zambia is seeking to contract eligible and qualified local institutions registered and based in  Zambia for consultancy services to  conduct  Quantitative and Qualitative Data collection for the  Data Must Speak Positive  Deviance Research in Zambia. ( Education section ).

Part 1 is Quantitative andPart 2  2 Qualitative 

Proposers are free to submit either for both or for one part. contracts may be issued separately.  

Purpose 

The purpose of the assignment is to conduct quantitative and qualitative data collection at a sample of Zambian schools in collaboration with MoE. The assignment is separated into two parts. Applicants can either submit a proposal for one part (Part 1 or Part 2) or proposals for both parts (Part 1 and Part 2) separately.

Specific Objectives:

Part 1:  Quantitative Data Collection

  • Recruit quantitative data collectors
  • Develop the data entry tool based on mobile technology (Kobocollect for example);
  • Pilot and finalise the different data collection instruments developed;
  • Translate and back translate data collection tools to relevant local languages;
  • Train data collectors through theoretical and practical training;
  • Supervise and ensure quality control throughout the data collection (including videos of class observations);
  • Implement procedures to ensure data quality (e.g. daily high-frequency data checks, checks of aberrant or missing data, spot checks of ongoing activities);
  • Compile and securely share all digital quantitative data with UNICEF. This includes regularly liaising with the UNICEF team to address any inconsistencies in the data.
  • Once returned from the field, code the videos of class observations.

 

Part 2:  Qualitative Data Collection

  • Recruit qualitative data collectors;
  • Train data collectors focusing on both theoretical and practical aspects of data collection;
  • Pilot and finalise data collection tools;
  • Translate and back translate data collection tools to relevant local languages;
  • Collect qualitative data from multiple stakeholders in schools and communities (i.e. conduct semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions);
  • Supervise and ensure quality control throughout the data collection;
  • Implement procedures to ensure data quality;
  • Transcribe interviews and focus group discussions as per template provided by UNICEF;
  • Translate into English those interviews and focus group discussions that will be conducted in local languages.

Reporting to  : UNICEF Education Specialist-Quality and co-managed by UNICEF Office of Research and UNICEF Regional Office of Eastern and Southern Africa
