Background and objectives: Russian Translation Service (RTS) at DGACM provides translation services into Russian from other UN official languages (primarily English) into Russian. Since Russian is Cyrillic-based, there is a need to transcribe geographical and personal names into Russian from Latin-based languages. TASS country database provides a one-stop shop and up-to-date information for many geographical and personal names needed for UN parliamentary documentation. It is a Russian-language reliable source used by many Russian-language agencies, organisations and mass media and therefore provides consistently for Russian-language clients reading Russian texts produced by RTS.
