Description
The UN Secretariat is implementing an Enterprise Data Catalog (EDC) to enable the organization to inventory its data assets. The EDC will faciltate self-service discovery of data from any source and elevate the Secretariat to a state where Information is valued as an UN-wide asset and readily available to support informed decision-making. The overarching objective of the project is to enable its stakeholders and users to be able to find accurate on-time expert information about data assets within the organization as this data changes, increases or becomes obsolete. The data should be readily available to all users while observing all the organizations rules and policies around data access, data sharing, data privacy and protection, information security and data quality. The aim is to understand the full range of the UN Secretariat’s data to protect and exploit it; to use it to support our business and to steer the work programme, and lower business risks. Ultimately, the data catalogue will simulate a Data as a service (DaaS) marketplace setting by providing a central repository that: i. enables data owners to register, annotate and publish their data sources, and ii. permits users to discover, understand and - with the right permissions and governance - consume these data sources.
