Storytelling Communications training
The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office in Africa recognizes the power of
personal stories to authentically convey programme efficacy, and is currently working to
improve the skill sets of its Communications Focal Point officers in how to conduct
beneficiary interviews and effectively broaden the relevant issues from individual stories
presented to the larger development context.
Stories and visual imagery, both photographic and video, are a powerful source of emotional
connection between WHO and its brand, as well as important for advocacy efforts on key issues. Without great stories and strategic placement of those stories, WHO cannot adequately reach its various stakeholders and advocate for crucial health issues affecting sub-Saharan Africa. It is therefore important that WHO staff, especially those working on the ground are familiar with how storytelling content is gathered and used at WHO.
The skill sets of these Communications Focal Point (CFP) officers vary considerably. WHO is looking for experienced Communications experts who can provide a four day workshop on how to gather material for impact stories, how to put impact stories together and how take better photographs.
