BACKGROUND

WHO has supported the Ministry of Health (MOH) in improving care during pregnancy. Antenatal care (ANC) provides a platform for important health-care functions, including health promotion, screening and diagnosis, and disease prevention. In 2018, the sub-committee on maternal health under the national RMNCAH Committee developed and rolled out the basic ANC module with support from WHO, and it has positive impact on quality improvement during pregnancy. The basic ANC module covers routine care at ANC and also emphasizes counselling at ANC. In 2022, the government requested WHO to develop the high-risk ANC that focuses more on screening and complication management during pregnancy. The government plans to field-test and roll out the module in 2022-2023.
