For the second year, the report also features an annual thematic supplement that focuses on current issues in procurement. The focus for the 2009 supplement is Procurement from developing countries and economies in transition. It includes an overview of the international debate on the subject, case studies and contributions from practitioners and international experts.
The publication is introduced by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who underlines the importance of fostering best practice in UN procurement activities. This is followed by an introductory article from UNOPS Executive Director, commenting on current trends and opportunities in UN procurement. The two following articles discuss the framework for procurement capacity building in developing countries. Finally, best practice cases are presented from South Africa, Indonesia, Pakistan, India and from WFP’s pilot procurement programme “Purchase for Progress”.
