The Annual Statistical Report on UN Procurement provides data on United Nations system of organisations procurement of goods and services in support of its operations.

The 2009 Report includes:

• United Nations system procurement by country of supply
• A procurement trend analysis of UN procurement from developing countries and countries with economies in transition
• UN procurement from member countries of the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee
• The top 10 items and product groups procured by UN agencies; and
• UN procurement from vendors that support the Global Compact
• A comparative analysis of the agency share of Goods and Services categories procured by UN agencies

For the second year, the report also features an annual thematic supplement that focuses on current issues in procurement. The focus for the 2009 supplement is Procurement from developing countries and economies in transition. It includes an overview of the international debate on the subject, case studies and contributions from practitioners and international experts.

The publication is introduced by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who underlines the importance of fostering best practice in UN procurement activities. This is followed by an introductory article from UNOPS Executive Director, commenting on current trends and opportunities in UN procurement. The two following articles discuss the framework for procurement capacity building in developing countries. Finally, best practice cases are presented from South Africa, Indonesia, Pakistan, India and from WFP’s pilot procurement programme “Purchase for Progress”.
